In the past, whenever you or one of your children had misaligned teeth and you wanted to correct the issue, you had only two choices. Either you suffered anywhere from 1 to 5 years with the torture and unattractiveness of wire braces or have your teeth prepped and fitted with veneers or crowns. However, within the past decade, a much gentler and kinder alternative to those two treatments has been introduced, namely Invisalign. You’ve probably seen Invisalign advertisements, but there is more to this than just 30 to 60 seconds of ad copy.
Invisalign is similar to braces in that it is an orthodontic treatment. However, it uses custom fitted, tooth-colored attachments and clear trays to realign your teeth. Unlike having to deal with the brackets and wires of traditional braces, the clear Invisalign trays are almost invisible, hence the patented name of the product. The same holds true with an Orem Invisalign treatment. Both dentists and orthodontists provide these services, but you should choose an orthodontist since they specialize in correcting misaligned teeth and related issues.
Just like braces, Invisalign properly aligns your teeth by applying gentle pressure on them. However, when you are drinking or eating, the Invisalign device can be removed. The length of time involved with wearing the device is about the same as it is with braces. The fact that Orem Invisalign devices are almost invisible is what separates them from traditional braces and makes this treatment more appealing.
Who is a candidate for an Orem Invisalign procedure? In most cases, it can be prescribed for adults as well as any teenagers who have permanent teeth or the same coming in to replace their baby teeth. Since elastics, headgear, or orthodontic appliances cannot be used in the treatment, Invisalign can only be applied in minor to moderate orthodontic issues. Since your Orem Invisalign device is removable, it makes it considerably easier to practice proper oral health care (i.e. brushing, flossing, using mouthwash, etc.)
When wearing your Orem Invisalign device, your orthodontist will make a few suggestions (do’s and don’ts) such as not chewing gum, not smoking, staying on top of your oral health care regimen, and using only lukewarm water to brush and wash your aligner. Finally, your teeth are very important, especially if you or your children are teenagers, and the last thing you or your child needs is to have issues that will detract from your physical image.
